1 Peter 2:18

18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.

The term froward here is most often translated as harsh or cruel. It was apparently not the servant’s place to question his master, and he should obey is every command, regardless of whether or not his master is a good, moral person.

Upon reading more of the 1 Peter 2 we find that it is suggested that we submit to the government and all laws of the land as well as our masters. The reasoning is that as Jesus was without sin and persecuted nonetheless, we should follow his example. In other words, this passage suggests that we always obey the law and those who have power over us just as Jesus did.

This isn’t entirely true, as he healed people on the Sabbath and used God’s name, both of which were against Jewish law. Where would the world be now if no slave ever rebelled against his master? Where would we be now if we never rebelled against evil tyrants? Indeed, all men are only masters over themselves and are never masters over any other. We know the value of freedom, and we understand that we should fight against injustice. One has to wonder, was this passage actually inspired by God, or was it simply inspired by a political religious institution that sought to control its patrons?

Leviticus 15:19-33

19 And if a woman have an issue, and her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart seven days: and whosoever toucheth her shall be unclean until the even.
20 And every thing that she lieth upon in her separation shall be unclean: every thing also that she sitteth upon shall be unclean.
21 And whosoever toucheth her bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
22 And whosoever toucheth any thing that she sat upon shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
23 And if it be on her bed, or on any thing whereon she sitteth, when he toucheth it, he shall be unclean until the even.
24 And if any man lie with her at all, and her flowers be upon him, he shall be unclean seven days; and all the bed whereon he lieth shall be unclean.
25 And if a woman have an issue of her blood many days out of the time of her separation, or if it run beyond the time of her separation; all the days of the issue of her uncleanness shall be as the days of her separation: she shall be unclean.
26 Every bed whereon she lieth all the days of her issue shall be unto her as the bed of her separation: and whatsoever she sitteth upon shall be unclean, as the uncleanness of her separation.
27 And whosoever toucheth those things shall be unclean, and shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
28 But if she be cleansed of her issue, then she shall number to herself seven days, and after that she shall be clean.
29 And on the eighth day she shall take unto her two turtles, or two young pigeons, and bring them unto the priest, to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
30 And the priest shall offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering; and the priest shall make an atonement for her before the LORD for the issue of her uncleanness.
31 Thus shall ye separate the children of Israel from their uncleanness; that they die not in their uncleanness, when they defile my tabernacle that is among them.
32 This is the law of him that hath an issue, and of him whose seed goeth from him, and is defiled therewith;
33 And of her that is sick of her flowers, and of him that hath an issue, of the man, and of the woman, and of him that lieth with her that is unclean.

Some may consider this as one of the laws meant to be good for our health, thus the references to uncleanliness. However, this is referring to spiritual hygiene. The woman, upon the end of her menstruation, must wait seven days. Upon the eighth day, she must make a both sin and burnt offering as an atonement. If she did nothing wrong, what would the woman have to atone for?

Menstruation is a perfectly natural process and is indeed necessary for the proper function of the female reproductive system. Women who do not menstruate do not get pregnant. This natural and necessary biological function is vital to our survival as a species, yet it has been proclaimed a sin by God. One would imagine that an all-knowing god would realize that a woman bleeding from her flowers is a perfectly natural thing. This is especially true when one considers the fact that God is the one who supposedly designed the female reproductive system to function as it does.

Moreover, a woman cannot control her menstruation, unless she works so hard that the stress causes it to cease, or she uses birth control that causes it to cease. Why should women be separated from all of society and treated like lepers for something they cannot control? It is very obvious that this portion of the King James Bible was written by men who had no clue about women, let alone the way their bodies function. They simply thought that menstrual blood was icky and decided that it must be a sin.

Then again, it is just as likely that such a law exists solely to oppress women, requiring them to make monthly offerings and constantly feel guilty for something they couldn’t control. Not only that, but the women were regarded as unclean, and anything or anyone they touched during this time also became unclean. This is just more proof that the King James Bible is a sexist document and that one of the intents of the authors was to oppress and abuse women.

Genesis 19:30-38

30 And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.
31 And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:
32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
33 And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
34 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
35 And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.
37 And the first born bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.
38 And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.

This is the end of the story of Lot. Because all of his sons are dead and cannot pass on his seed, his daughters conspire to get him drunk and seduce him. They both succeed and become pregnant with his boys. It seems quite a bit of value is place on passing on one’s seed, to the point that it even encourages incest.

These verses are not pointed out due to matters of morality, however. They are pointed out because of the obscenity. While I heard the story of Lot several times as a child, warned that being promiscuous would cause God to wish my destruction, I was never told that the good and righteous Lot impregnated his own daughters. This is definitely not the kind of tale I would want my children to read.

Genesis 19:1-8

1 And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;
2 And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant’s house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.
3 And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.
4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:
5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.
6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,
7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.
8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.

This is the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. Lot is deemed to be the only good man in the two cities, and Yahweh decides to spare him. When angels come to visit Lot and destroy Sodom, he takes them to his house. When a crowd comes to sodomize the angels, Lot offers up his virgin daughters in their place.

The angels do strike the would-be rapists with blindness, and the deed does not get done. However, the fact remains that the only person of the two cities that Yahweh deems a good person is willing to allow his daughters to be raped by a mob of men from a city so foul that Yahweh deemed they must be destroyed. These are supposedly some of the worst guys ever, yet Lot offers his daughters to them.

I do not have any respect for a man who would offer his daughters to be raped. I would rather fight the entire city to the death than allow any daughters of mine to be raped, and I would imagine that any decent father would do the same. This man, who had the favor of Yahweh, is a vile and pitiful excuse for a man. Is this the best that Yahweh could find? It might be appropriate for him to simply destroy the lot, Lot included.

Genesis 2:16-17

16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Genesis 3:2-7

2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

While Yahweh clearly states that Adam and Eve will surely die after they eat the fruit, they actually continue to live after doing so. Satan, in serpent form, informs them that they will know the difference between good and evil, which they do. It’s not as if they were immortal before and then had their immortality taken away. In fact, Yahweh kicks out Adam and Eve from the garden so that they cannot eat from the tree of life and live forever.

Some have suggested that they experienced a spiritual death. If that is true, then why doesn’t Yahweh say so? Instead of doing that, he rattles off various punishments that they will endure. The snake eats dust while women hate him, Eve gets painful childbirth and submission to men, and Adam must work the cursed land to get his food. Yahweh doesn’t say anything about any death, spiritual or otherwise. Theists may deny this and make rationalizations all they want, but the textual evidence shows that Yahweh lied and Satan told the truth.

The story itself is unfair. Adam and Eve didn’t understand the difference good and evil before eating the fruit. They didn’t know that it was bad to go against Yahweh before they did this, so he is essentially punishing them for something that they didn’t have the capacity to fully comprehend. Yahweh shouldn’t have placed the tree there to begin with, because they would have had free will without it.

If no one was supposed to eat from it, why not root it up? Why leave it there to tempt the first two humans? In addition, why does Yahweh want to prevent Adam and Eve from gaining knowledge? Faith, belief without evidence, is what he places the most value on. If he exists and is omniscient, then he placed the tree there because he knew that the first two humans would eat from it. He wanted them to blindly follow him rather than to learn anything. When Adam and Eve ate from the tree out of ignorance, he cursed them and their descendants for all eternity. That is evil and deceitful, and his punishments are extreme and cruel. This is not a good god. In the beginning, the only logical conclusion to come to is that Yahweh and Satan are both imaginary.

12 For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.

When you read all of the Second Book of Samuel, chapter 12, you see that this is part of a story. David has killed Uriah and taken his wife. Yahweh doesn’t approve, so he’s going to punish David by having his wives raped by his neighbors. This is not only immoral, it is also obscene.

What did these women do to deserve being raped? Is Yahweh in the habit of punishing people who did nothing against him just to prove his point to another? Actually, the idea that Yahweh punishes uninvolved people is present throughout the King James Bible. It appears as if Yahweh were auditioning for the role of Satan.

17 Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.
18 But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.

This is a simple story laid out in the Book of Numbers, chapter 31. Yahweh commands Moses to gather an army and destroy the Midianites. He gathers 12,000 men to destroy this city. They kill every man, take everything of value, and burn their homes to the ground. They take the women, children, and goods to Moses. Then, he tells them to kill all but the virgin girls, which they were to keep for themselves.

While Yahweh did not specifically command that Moses take the virgin girls, he did condone it. He demands that a portion of the spoils, including the virgins be sacrificed to him. Is this something that a good god would demand? Is this something that a good god would even allow to happen?

Moses, under the command of Yahweh, destroys an entire city, kills all but the virgin girls, sacrifices a portion of them to Yahweh, then allows all others to be divided up amongst the Israelites. Yahweh and Moses obviously have no respect for human life and even less respect for women.

1 Samuel 18:27

27 Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king’s son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.

Upon reading the entirety of the First Book of Samuel, chapter 18, we see that this is part of a story. It is essentially all explained in this single verse. Saul wanted David to die, so he gave him the task of getting one hundred philistine foreskins. David not only survived, he over-delivered by bringing back two hundred foreskins.

None of this was commanded by Yahweh, so it does not point to his immorality. However, David was said to have Yahweh’s favor, which he did not lose through this act. The point of the story is that this is just plain disgusting. Offering any body parts as payment for the privilege of marrying a man’s daughter is obscene in it’s own right. Requiring that this body part be the severed skin from the tip of a man’s phallus is that much more obscene. This is not a verse you hear in church, and it certainly isn’t something you tell children in Sunday school.

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

According to Saint Paul, all scripture is inspired by Yahweh and illustrates how he believes we should live a good and moral life. These verses are often used to encourage others to read the King James Bible, which I completely support.

By using the term scripture, Paul could be referring to the Old Testament specifically or perhaps to the entirety of the King James Bible. Either way, all scripture can be used to determine what is right from what is wrong. This includes the support of rape, slavery, and genocide that are not only condoned but requested or even performed by Yahweh on several occasions. These verses lay the blame directly on Yahweh for all of the atrocities of the King James Bible.

13 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.
14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.

These verses, like many others, advocate the abuse of children. While many parents still practice corporal punishment today, few use a rod to do so. It has become widely accepted that corporal punishment does not work and that there are much more effective, less psychologically damaging parenting and disciplinary techniques.

One would imagine that an all-loving, all-knowing god would know of such parenting and disciplinary techniques and would have revealed them to mankind in an effort to decrease human suffering. The only logical conclusion is that the King James Bible was written by men who valued control over what was right. That, or Yahweh simply enjoys having children suffer and die.
