Deuteronomy 23:1

1 He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD.

It seems as if all of Deuteronomy 23 is made up of various rules and laws, most of which are very silly. This particular verse contains a law that specifically denies those who have been castrated or otherwise wounded in the genitals from entering a congregation.

What are these people doing at church that requires the use of your genitals? Keep in mind that it is the wound that prevents their entry into congregation. This could be a battle wound, it could be an accident, or it could be anything and may not necessarily be the fault of the wounded. Why, then, are they punished?

Perhaps this isn’t a punishment. Perhaps it is a gift. Maybe Yahweh feels so bad about a man being wounded in the junk that he decides to let him sleep in on Sundays.

Additionally, what about circumcision? The foreskin is removed during this operation and is required by the Old Law. Obviously, people who are circumcised are allowed to enter church, but this suggests that the amount cut off is of great importance. Does the entire phallus have to be removed for this law to apply? When it comes to removing part of the genitals, how much is too much? Additionally, do they have to check everyone before they enter? Is there a greeter cupping all the men as they walk in?

1 Samuel 18:27

27 Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king’s son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.

Upon reading the entirety of the First Book of Samuel, chapter 18, we see that this is part of a story. It is essentially all explained in this single verse. Saul wanted David to die, so he gave him the task of getting one hundred philistine foreskins. David not only survived, he over-delivered by bringing back two hundred foreskins.

None of this was commanded by Yahweh, so it does not point to his immorality. However, David was said to have Yahweh’s favor, which he did not lose through this act. The point of the story is that this is just plain disgusting. Offering any body parts as payment for the privilege of marrying a man’s daughter is obscene in it’s own right. Requiring that this body part be the severed skin from the tip of a man’s phallus is that much more obscene. This is not a verse you hear in church, and it certainly isn’t something you tell children in Sunday school.

Genesis 17:9-14

9 And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations.
10 This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.
11 And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.
12 And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.
13 He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.
14 And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.

Acts 15:24

24 Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:

Obviously, the first passage shows the word of Yahweh as spoken to Abraham. However, it is also clearly suggested that there was no such mandate, according to Luke the Evangelist. Perhaps Luke was simply unaware of this, but one would think that an author of the New Testament would be knowledgeable of the Old Testament.

Galatians 5:1-4

1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.
3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.
4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

Here, Paul the Apostle speaks out against circumcision. In fact, he suggests that if you get circumcised, you are obligated to obey all of the laws of Moses and that Christ will be of no value to you.

If you read the entire chapter, you find that Paul suggests that one can reach salvation through faith and good deeds alone. This is contradictory to the words of Yeshua himself, who said that he did not come to abolish any of the old law.

Furthermore, he suggests that we have all fallen from grace and that the law is essentially of no consequence. Once again, this is not only against other Christian teachings, this is against any semblance of morality. How can any morality exist when everything is permissible? There are simply too many contradictions here to hunt them all down!
